University of Maine Homecoming Weekend is upon us again, and it’s one of my favorite weekends of the year. As a U Maine Grad, it’s great to have all of the events going on and see the Alumni coming back to visit. There are some can’t miss events during the weekend though… Here are a few of my favorite ones!
1) The Homecoming Football Game
U Maine Football has seen a resurgence in the past few seasons, and while this year’s team isn’t at the top of the league standing just yet, they are moving in the right direction. The University as done a great job in the game experience department as well, encouraging tailgating and other events to draw in great crowds. This year the opponent is Yale, which should make for a fun game. I’m sure tickets are still available – Visit GoBlackBears.com for more info.
2) The Craft Fair
Ah yes… the craft fair in the field house… what a great event during homecoming weekend. After taking a year off due to the construction in the field house, the craft fair returned last year. Make sure you take a few minutes to walk through – you never know what you might find. Open both Saturday and Sunday.
3) Events at the Collins Center for the Arts.
Lots of great shows have come to the Collins center recently. This year on Friday night 42nd Street will be playing, and The Met live in HD – Otello on Saturday afternoon. For more information visit the Collins Center webpage.
What’s not happening this year? Mens Ice Hockey. Usually the Mens Hockey team plays a home-stand during homecoming weekend, but this year they’re on the road visiting Union. This change was due to the Icebreaker Tournament put on at the Cross Insurance Arena in Portland last weekend.
Enjoy Homecoming weekend 2015!
